WE'RE OPEN

New View Blinds and Shutters is currently taking the necessary precautions in an effort to avoid the spread of COVID-19 both within our organization and to the customers we interact with on a daily basis. To do that, we're trying to pre-price through email before we do an in-home consultation. Please fill out our form and let us know what products you're interested in, and the rough dimensions of all the window openings.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by COVID-19 and we hope to work through this very difficult time together

Are Plantation Shutters Safe for Your Home

Many consumers who shop for window coverings are concerned with safety for their children and pets. Plantation shutter manufacturers understand the need to have safer environments in our homes and have built many safety features into today’s plantation shutters. Most children and pets are inherently curious, wanting to touch and taste just about everything they can get their hands or mouths on. The safer their environment, the less likely they’ll get hurt, so consider plantation shutters if you’re looking for new window coverings for your home.

Shutters And Indoor Air Quality- What Is Best For Your Home

Shutters And Indoor Air Quality- What Is Best For Your Home

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is a growing concern for Colorado homeowners and many consumers today. Mold, Radon, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and carbon monoxide have been receiving greater attention than before as poor IAQ has become linked to poor health.Paradoxically, the IAQ problem is often worse in newer green home designs. Since newer homes in Colorado are more tightly sealed, the chemicals that emit from indoor sources get trapped inside. One of the ways to improve poor IAQ is to reduce the presence of VOCs in the air you breathe. VOCs are emitted by many of the products in a home such as carpets, furniture, curtains and other window coverings. Our Lexwood shutters and our Polycore shutters have received both the GREENGUARD® Indoor Air Quality and the coveted GREENGUARD® Children & Schools certifications. This means that our shutters have passed an extensive series of tests to ensure that they meet stringent third-party standards for low chemical emissions based on established health standards and will not contribute to IAQ problems.

What Are The Best Shutters Made Of?

There are quite a few shutters out there made from “wood”, “engineered wood” and various combinations. In order to cut down on the confusion and level the playing field a bit, we present our rundown of some common shutter materials. Our PolyCore and Lexwood Shutters only use 100% Basswood or Aluminum reinforced PVC.

PRESSBOARD

pressboard shutters in ColoradoPressboard or particleboard is an engineered wood that is made by taking wood particles like wood chips, sawmill shavings and sawdust and combining them with synthetic resin (usually urea formaldehyde resin). The resultant material is pressed into sheets and heated to dry the glue.

There is a serious safety concern with particleboard. Formaldehyde (part of the glue) is classified by the WHO as a human carcinogen. Even though a large amount is removed when the glue dries, formaldehyde continues to be emitted throughout the life of the product as the resin decomposes. Particleboard will also disintegrate when exposed to moisture and Colorado’s extreme sun. Particleboard may visibly sag over time or snap near the fasteners.
